Rotary
International continues to respond to the needs of an ever changing world,
whilst retaining its strong founding principles. There are 1.2 million
Rotarians in 34000 clubs doing good all over the world. This network of clubs
makes up Rotary International.
In
1929 Rotary Club of Bombay was formed with 38 Charter Members with Sole Indian
Rotarian Sir Phiroz Shetna, who served as District Governor in the year
1937-38. Rotary District 3140 is the largest district in the world and covers
revenue districts of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai with 148 Clubs and about
7500 dedicated Rotarians. Effective from 1st July 2016, Rotary District 3140
bifurcated into Rotary District 3141 (Revenue District of Mumbai) and Rotary
District 3142 (Revenue District of Thane, Navi Mumbai).
Rotary
International has been involved in various social service activities like
Arogya, a Diabetes Awareness and Control, Touching Little Hearts, a Paediatric
Heart Surgeries program, Railway Stations’ Adoptions, Nityam, a program for providing
Toilets for People, etc.
On
the occasion of Inauguration of the New Rotary International District 3141 and
installation of District Governor a Special Cover was released at Mumbai on
26th June, 2016. (MH/22/2016).
