UPSC IAS, IFS exams 2016: Details regarding the official notification

The official notification for the civil service IAS and IFoS (Indian Forest Service) exam 2016 will be released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) April 23.

The official notification for the civil service IAS and IFoS (Indian Forest Service) exams 2016 will be released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) April 23. All those who are interested in working with the elite services, may register for the exam at the official websitewww.upsconline.nic.in.

The application for the same can be submitted till 20 May. The preliminary examination for the same will be held on August 7.

Attempts :

Six attempts are allowed to every candidate appearing for the exam. However, this restriction on the number of attempts will not apply for candidates belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes category.

There are three levels of this exam, namely: Preliminary exam, main exam and personality test or interview. Only after clearing all the three rounds, the candidates will be eligible for the posts of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and others.

Eligibility criteria

Educational qualification:

IAS: Those interested in applying for this exam, should be a citizen of India. Candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees and immigrants with Indian origin will have to submit a certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government of India, as an evidence of their eligibility.

The candidates should be holding a degree from any of Indian universities or an equivalent qualification from any recognised university. Those who have appeared or intend to appear for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the exam.

IFS: Those interested in applying for this exam should be holding a Bachelor's degree with at least one of the subjects namely, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture/ Forestry/Engineering of a recognised university or equivalent.

Candidates appearing for their degree examination (with prescribed subjects) are also eligible to compete. Those qualifying the written examination will be required to submit the proof of passing the requisite examination along with their detailed application form to be filled up at that stage.
