Delhi to host 6-day festival on 100 years of Indian Cinema

NEW DELHI: A six day festival packed with retrospectives, screenings of films by master directors and exhibition of rare films posters and artifacts will be part of the centenary celebrations to be hosted in the Capital.
 
Organised by the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry the festival will kickstart on April 25. Classics by master directors like Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt and Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be screened besides special screenings of films starring Balraj Sahni, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna. The festival will also offer a sprinkling of various flavours of Indian cinema from major film producing regions of the country.

A key highlight of the festival includes a special "Satyajit Ray Retrospective" and display the artwork of the iconic personality. The artwork is expected to provide rare glimpses in to the legendary filmmakers fascinating word of art. It will have on display reproductions of Ray's numerous works preserved in original state at the
Satyajit Ray Society in Kolkata including ad-artworks, book jacket designs, set and costume designs and sketches from shooting scripts.

The Festival will also host the exhibition "Indian Cinema 100 (Celebrating a Century: An Audio Visual Voyage). Other rare highlights include screening of the silent film "Throw of Dice' wit live musical orchestra by maestro Nishat Khan and a play on the life and times of
Dadasaheb Phalke by Aamir Raza Hussain would mark the end of the festival April 30.

The festival will also include Films Division documentaries which have captured on celluloid post Independent India in all its myriad perspectives such as news reels documentaries, shorts, features and animation films on diverse subjects.
 
Department of Posts has also decided to release a set of Commemorative Postage Stamp on the occasion of "100 YEARS OF INDIAN CINEMA'' on 3/5/2013.
